What music do you enjoy listening to while you write? As somebody with ADD, I have to be careful to avoid anything that requires much of my attention, sticking to stuff without words or that I know so well that I don't need to pay attention.

I've also found that some music actually improves my ability to concentrate. At some point, I did a bit of poking about and discovered that minimalist music (Steve Reich, Philip Glass & Terry Riley are the most well known) has a big ADD fan base. Most of the people I know LOATHE Steve Reich, so it can be a little complicated when other people are around! :)

If you're unfamiliar with Steve Reich, try listening to this one. It begins with a series of notes played repeatedly on a pair of pianos in unison. One of the pianos changes tempo so they're no longer synchronized. At the same time as changing the speed, the notes also slowly begin to change. Over the course of the song, the planos slow down and speed up while the music gradually shifts. It drives some people nuts but I love it! This particular video is especially compelling, but I won't spoil the surprise for you! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnQdP03iYIo

Other than straight classical music, I like covers & mashups of modern songs played on classical instruments. Vitamin String Quartet & Piano Guys are amazing, but they're not the only ones.

Here's a mashup of Vivaldi's Winter with Let It Go from Frozen by Piano Guys. It was sung by Alex Boye' & the One Voice Chilren's Choir. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Dakd7EIgBE

I also like listening to musicals while I'm writing. I tend to default to Rent, Sweeney Todd, Wicked, Avenue Q, Into The Woods, and, of course, Hamilton.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z28yAI2okuM

Another genre that I enjoy to listen to, though less so, is humor. Mostly I choose Tom Lehrer & Weird Al, though Allan Sherman & a few other Dr. Demento treasures are in the playlists. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Gv0H-vPoDc

I probably shouldn't have yammered for so long, but there are still no jobs appearing on the boards even though I've got my score up from (no idea, it was low... can I have a 0?) up to 71. I don't know why nothing is appearing. Please, tell me it's not my breath! :(

Anyway, I would love some new recommendations!!! Thanks!!!

Thanks for the Piano Guys link! It was really good. I'll have to check out their other music videos.

Thanks! They're wonderful, especially the ones with Alex Boye'.

As an aside, the redheaded piano player lost his daughter recently. It was heartbreaking! They knew she drove out into the wild, parked her car at the side of the road and went for a hike, but they couldn't find her for over a month. She had fallen off of a cliff and died on impact. Just so, so devastating.

I work from home while taking care of my grandmother.  I work at my laptop in the same room as she watches TV.  To block out the distraction of the television I listen to this quite often.  https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=music+to+wake+you+up+at+work&&view=detail&mid=EC69FE897BA5EDE8D1B3EC69FE897BA5EDE8D1B3&rvsmid=EC69FE897BA5EDE8D1B3EC69FE897BA5EDE8D1B3&fsscr=0&FORM=VDMCNL
