Your standard, or Direct Assign, pay rate is the rate that you set on your Public Profile page. This is the rate that you want to net out for direct assignments. It is not the actual Client Rate, which will be 30% more than your Direct Assign rate to account for our commission.
If a client assigns a job to you directly, unless they request a different rate and you agree to that rate, this is the rate that the client will pay to you. Determine the per-word rate that you would like to work for, based on your skill level and experience.
Keep in mind that any job taken from the job board will be paid at the rate at which it was posted. You will not be paid your Direct Assign rate for job board jobs unless the job happens to match your rate.
A Client-Specific rate is one that you set for a specific client. Until or unless you change it, this will be set at your standard rate. If a client requests that you work at a rate that is different from your standard Direct Assign rate, you can either agree to their offer or negotiate a rate.
Keep in mind that the client must agree to the CLIENT RATE, which is 30% higher than your net. So, when negotiating a rate, first calculate what you wish to net, then ask the client to pay the CLIENT RATE that will give you that net.
Whenever you wish, you can update your standard rate for direct assignments, and you can set client-specific rates. Here's how:
To set your default rate for all new clients:
--Click on ""Settings"" at the top of the screen
--Click on ""Public Profile""
--Scroll down to the ""My Service Profiles"" section
--On the lower left, there's an area to enter your default rate — then click Save Changes.
To set a client-specific rate:
--Click on the client name / open the client profile
--Go to the ""Direct Assignments"" section
--Enter the rate and click Update Rate
Note: to change your rates for Editing jobs, follow the steps above but look for the tabs that says Writing and Editing — it will be on Writing by default, so click on Editing before changing your rate.
