Often, writers accept a job but then realize that they have a question that needs to be answered before they can continue. So, we have an On Hold feature that allows you to put the job on hold until you get an answer from the client. You can put a job on hold if it's in either Pending First Draft or Pending Revision status. Write your question on the document message board, then check the box below that says "This is a question." This will stop the deadline clock until you receive an answer. Once the client answers the question the deadline clock will resume where it left off. For example, if there was an hour left on the deadline when you originally put it on hold, then when the job is taken off hold by the client there will be an hour left for you to submit. Jobs are also placed on hold if you request a word count increase or a pay rate increase. This means you won’t miss a deadline while waiting for a client to respond to those requests, and as described above the deadline clock will resume where it left off when the client responds. The On hold feature is a handy tool that allows you to get information without having to worry about the deadline running out while you wait to hear back from the client. However, it's important to remember that you may still miss the deadline if you don't submit within the time remaining on the job. If you are concerned that the client will take the job off hold while you can't access your account, or you know that there is not a lot of time left on the original deadline, you may ask the client to extend the deadline at the time they take the job off hold. You may need to do this especially if you and the client are in different time zones.
